Day 90: India Stands Together
The 100 Day Writing Project
The last few days have made me once again realise the value of unity in diversity. People are rallying together to fight the surge in covid cases in India and there are so many people helping out by verifying the links on social media, going out of their way to help people and doing whatever they can to help out.
On a hunt for Remdesivir for a relative, over a period of three hours, at least fifteen people, who I didn’t even know personally ranging from relatives’ friends to their relatives to friends’ relatives, all came forward to help, call numbers, personally verify the details of availability and they actually came through with the medicine at cost price wherein it is available for five times the price in the black market. Not only that, all of them followed up later regarding my relative’s health and if we managed to procure the vial or not.
This incident was bitter sweet-from the hospital denying availability, to people asking for five to ten times the price to actually fearing non-availability to travelling 30kms to get the injection vial to so many people stepping up to help find the medicine. We finally got the medicine and my relative is recovering. This incident made me feel ashamed of humanity, ashamed of those people charging ten times the price of a life saving drug. And it made me feel proud of the fact that no matter how tough it gets, and how many unethical people exist in this world, there will be always be some good samaritans who will make this world a better place.
It is because of these people that my faith in humanity remains and because of these very people I know we will get through this.
Till then, stay home people, stay safe and get vaccinated!
