Day 85: Restraint

The 100 Day Writing Project

Restraint is the new letting go. Controversial I know. All we want to do is speak our minds, talk with our hearts and say what we feel. But sometimes, just sometimes the things you refrain from saying, the restraint you show in the midst of sensitive moments, the silence to save a relationship, and the courage to bear the burden of being quiet if it makes a situation better. Those are the ones which are worth keeping quiet for.

Restraint in writing is another thing. There is so much which we want to share with the world but something holds us back. Maybe its the fear of judgement, the nervousness of loved ones reading our writing and sometimes plain, sheer controversy or our opinion which goes against the crowd. It is this restraint which I ask you to let go of. It is mighty hypocritical of me as so often I too clip my words and hone it as per “requirement” and I am fully aware that it is easier said than done but it is the need of the hour.

Writing is a tough job, it’s never easy to speak out when the world would prefer you to stay quiet. But you got to do it and therein you need not show any restraint.
